Hey, guys. Have you heard that Microsoft's dipping into the antivirus market once again? Their past attempt was, IIRC, called Live OneCare, which really didn't make a splash. Redmond is back at it again, however, with a new antivirus/anti-malware codenamed "Morro", but now renamed to Microsoft Security Essentials. Here are some screenshots I found:

Looks to be a really basic and stripped down version of an antivirus, though. I'll still stick to my AVG, thank you very much. :D

I currently use Windows Live Care for my laptop and my desktop is that a mistake? Gathering from your post, I am thinking that it might be. Can you give us a little more detail about the downside of Live One Care? I would appreciate it. If I am not as protected as I need to be, I would like to know before it is too late. Thanks.

I do not think I would trust anything named IIRC, do these people not understand that for most geeks that related to Internet Relay Chat. The last thing I want is something protecting my computer that flashes me back to my days on dalnet and efnet.

My personal opinion is that Microsoft won't be a monopoly in the anti virus markets. There are too many of good anti virus protection softwares available in market much better than the ones released by Microsoft. Microsoft has to go a long way in making any significant impact in the anti virus markets.

Microsoft are trying to find more markets to monopolize, seeing as Google are whupping them elsewhere :P
I didn't like OneCare and I doubt i'll like security essentials, AVG works and it works by itself, any MS product will probably be as annoying as vista "Are you absolutely sure you really want to do this?"

"really?"

Though microsoft is releasing this antivirus, there are more better anti virus in the market today and I guess they can not monopolize this and I better stick to my antivirus than with microsoft.
