Can you tell me if IE8 is OK to install now on XP? I have it installed on my Vista PC but my husband's laptop is XP and I have read that it is still causing problems.

Not really, IE 8 is compatible with XP operating systems. Further it is more stable than the other previous versions of IE. I don't think your computer would have problems because of installing IE 8, if you encounter problems it would be most probably from the system and not from IE 8.

Can't see how installing Internet Explorer 8 would cause problems with the XP operating system. If anything, since IE is developed by Microsoft, it should work the best with XP than other browsers on the market.

Thanks, I'll install it for him the next time it comes up in a MS update. I do have the capability to uninstall it if necessary and in any case he is using browsers other than IE, like Chrome and FF more often than not!

If he's using Chrome or Firefox, then why bother upgrading the IE, especially if it's causing problems? If you need to view a website in IE mode, you can always install the IE add-on for Firefox.

Unfortunately there are a few important websites (our bank for instance) that insist on IE for their software to work so we don't really have much choice!

Then how does one know if the machine they are on is XP operating systems, do you mean only those or any Windows machine? I seem to have no issues running it myself but it seems many others do. Maybe I got lucky?

It's pretty easy to know what operating system you are running-it tells you on the splash screen when you boot it up :D XP is still strongly supported so I can't see any reason that IE 8 wouldn't work for it.

That stinks, I wasn't aware that some sites only operated with IE. I've been using Firefox for years and just started working on Chrome, which I love. Maybe he could just use the IE on the other computer?

Unfortunately, there are still plenty of sites that use IE as their baseline when it comes to web programming. One of these days these developers will but until then, we're at their mercy and will have to use whatever is compatible with their programming.

arghh I hate IE 8 with a passion, it was the main reason I finally switched to Firefox after an entire life using and being accustomed to IE for decades LOL
