can any one tell the difference between core2duo and dual core processors ?

The Core 2 Duo is Intel's second generation (Hence, Core 2) processor made for desktops and laptops designed from the ground up to be fast while not consuming nearly as much power as previous CPUs, Dual core is simply a generic term referring to any processor package with two physical CPUs in one.

Dual Core is better because it has 2 processors. The more the better. (Dell has a Quad Core, 4, processor computer and Mac has a Dual Quad Core processor, yes 8 processors). The main difference is that core duo is 32-bit processor, where as Core 2 Duo is 64-it processor, also for Core 2 Duo, the cache memory is 4MB compared to 2MB of Core Duo

Intel Dual Core" is the previous generation "Pentium" chips from Intel.
The current generation is "Core2Duo"

The worst Core2Duo is MUCH faster and MUCH cooler than the "Intel Dual Core".

There could never really be any reason to get an older Intel Chip.
If you are on a very tight budget go with AMD instead. With even a moderate Budget, the entry level Core2Duos will give you tremendous power.

The "Dual Core"s are Pentium D's. Older technology, 2 cores.
The "Core Duo"s are the new processors, 2 cores also, but much faster, processes instructions about 4 times faster per clock than a Pentium D.

Still, expect to see some systems still on the market that use the Core CPU, especially in laptops. Performance is still very good with Core, so don't feel like you're getting second-class goods if you buy a Core Duo notebook, but remember you are buying a chip that Intel is no longer actively selling, and prices for Core 2 systems aren't really any different than they were for Cores. If it was my money, I'd hold out for a Core 2 system unless you got a great deal on a Core... which will be all but vanished from the market in a matter of months.

when i bought my laptop i had similar issues. core2 duo was expensive while i didn't want dual core. i even thought buying a desktop instead. but eventually dell reduced some prices by negotiations and i got my laptop.
AMD is a very good and economaical option but some ppl say not good for hot conditions, don't know

I chose to get a core 2 duo when I bought my laptop specially for the higher cache memory, guess I made a good decision hehe
