Does anyone know of where I can see a very detailed step by step guide to changing from Windows Vista to Windows 7? I want to try to switch over but I have not ever done anything like this and I don't want to mess up!

I looked into Windows website and I found two types of setup. You can either do the automatic setup wherein your Windows 7 installer will detect the current Windows version or do the custom installation where you will decide on the details for Windows 7 installation.

I am having an issue with installation myself. I have attempted the auto install twice and about half way through it stalls with no further progress. That system is just setting there. No idea where to go from here. Any help?

Thank you for posting those links to get me started. Classico, I am sorry I can't help you but I do hope someone here can. If not, have you tried calling their customer support number?

I have been in this situation so many times when I'm installing a Windows OS. It's no different when installing Windows 7 because it is still made by Microsoft. I would suggest that you clean the hard drive where you will install the new OS by formatting it. There are so many problems with just upgrading from previous versions of Windows. Installing a fresh copy will most likely succeed than upgrading.

Sleepyhead, I am not trying to actually install just an upgrade. It is a whole new OS and each time it stalls unfinished. I am starting "fresh" because it isn't an upgrade. I am still stuck on this and it is infuriating me.

I'm sorry hear that Classico. I guess that your installer might be lacking something for it to complete the installation. What I can suggest is that you exchange that installer to where you have bought it and I'm sure that they will give you another copy. This is the only option I could think of but I will try to ask my friends about this so I can tell you other options when you install Windows 7.
