Anyone plan on installing Google Chrome OS when the operating system is finally released? Primary benefits of the OS are supposed to be speed, security and simplicity.

I will still wait for reviews about this for this is really new. I think you can't play games with large files in it. I have a feeling that this kind of OS is for businessmen who often use the computer for office programs.

From the few reviews that I've read, the operating system isn't really geared toward gamers. Google wants users to be able to access the Internet quickly and then store everything out on their servers, much like users do now with Google's office products.

I've run the 'operating system' if you can call it that. It really isn't-its just a bootstrap loader that runs a browser. A browser is all you get-everything must be done through a google account, and using things like google documents.

You have to have an internet connection to run it, and it must be wired-there is no wireless support.

It sounds then, as if they are not doing much, really, with the product, other than promoting themselves and making people more reliant on them. I'll probably stay away from it.

The thing that is interesting is how Google is tapping into the latest wave of cloud technology that has hit the corporate and public sector. It's just that the average user doesn't know much about this so it'll be fun to see how things work out.

Cloud technology is really a wonderful thing. But the Chrome OS-it is not. I can see it being of use in third world countries perhaps but then they are less likely to have net access. But otherwise, unless you need a tiny stripped down machine (like the one laptop for every child scheme) then I don't see the use of it.

It's interesting, but I think you are right, Brady-- Google is really just using some of the latest technologies that the average user doesn't really know about. I wonder how many of their other products are similar.
I still would like to at least see the OS before I write it off.

It was an interesting, and exciting concept when I first heard about it, until I saw the thing for myself and all the reviews. It seems like it has been way over hyped, and that's a shame really.

The one thing that I wonder is if there is so much hype about Chrome that when it's released, will it be a letdown because it's been over-hyped. I kind of compare that to what happened with the iPad.

I wonder if it can be made as a dual boot. I think this would be great if you are in a rush for your laptop to connect to the internet immediately. Then when you are at home and wanted to play games or watch movies then you can boot with the other operating system.

There is no need for dual boot. Simply set your bios to boot first to a USB device, put Chrome on the flash drive, plugged into the USB port. Boot the computer from cold and it will boot into Chrome.

Not all BIOS has the capacity to boot with USB drive. But I would assume that we can boot Google Chrome through a CD. This is more practical to use if we can manage to do this.

If there's a USB version I don't see why they couldn't have a CD version as well. As for the OS itself, haven't heard much about it to be honest but it does look interesting. I do wonder how it will compare against existing light OSes though such as DSL and the Puppy Linux distro both of which seem to accomplish the same thing that this one is striving to do and have been around for quite some time now.

It seems that Chrome is so tiny that you can run it any how. If you have a bios that won't do USB boot then yes, CD would work but it doesn't need nearly the space of a full CD from what I understand.
