I went to youtube and checked out some tutorials using GIMP. I was not aware of this program before this thread. Compared to photoshop, it is much simplier to use and the fact that it is free makes it even more appealing for my newly started online business.

If you have tried Photoshop then you will see the difference when you use GIMP. There are many tutorials in the internet where you can learn on how to use GIMP.

There are other softwares out there that can be used but this is the one I have used to replace Photoshop.

I haven't used GIMP, but I've read that the program might take some time to learn. I usually just play around with programs for a while until I get the hang of them; do you think you have enough time to do the same?

Like sleepyhead I recommend using GIMP. It's a lot easier to learn, it's free, and their user manual is online so you can always look up how to do certain things. There are also helpful tutorials on Youtube and other places.

I usually use Firework to do image and photo editing. It has the similar functions and features with Photoshop. It maybe less powerful yet easier to use than Photoshop. GIMP sounds interesting, I may give it a try.

I'm going to check out gimp as well. I've never heard of it, but I have never gotten the hang of Photoshop, and I've had it for years.

Yes, Gimp can save in JPG format. You can even save images in PSD format which is a Photoshop file. So you can still edit that image in Photoshop even though you have edited that image in Gimp.

That's great! Thanks Sleepyhead for the info. I never heard about GIMP2.6 before, but I think there is no harm to give something free a try. :) What format does this software create images in? Can you get images in JPG format using GIMP2.6?

Do you own one? If yes then you can do the basic editing of images whatever version you may have.

I'm not sure if there is a free trial of Photoshop but I'm sure that they are very expensive when you buy them.

I recommend that you rather use GIMP2.6 because it's very easy to use and it can do the basic things that Photoshop can do. Plus it's free to use.

I know it's embarrassing, but I don't master Photoshop. Now I need to use it to edit some photos and create some images for my website. Is it easy to learn? I don't need the latest version with those advanced features. So, which version of Photoshop would you recommend to a beginner?
