Open Office and Star Office I believe will run on Windows, Mac OS and *nix systems. Are there any other programs or software suites that will run on a similar number of platforms?

Microsoft Office is available for both Macs and PCs; I use it all the time for work so that I can transfer documents between my two computers. I'm not sure if it runs on other platforms though.
