I know that every job has different "rules" concerning the use of the internet and what kind of sites can be accessed. In some workplaces, the employer can only access e-mail. In others, they can access the whole internet but there are specific guideliness concerning its use. How is it in your workplace?

All things could be done except explicit material, and it is not restricted but avoid by employees themselves only to fulfill moral responsibilities. So how at your work place?

all things are accessible here at my work place even explicit materials, but of course we dont browse explicit materials when someone is around.. mostly limited internet access are implemented on computer laboratories on schools..

yup! exactly.. i work as a teacher in a computer school. almost everything in our computer laboratories are blocked. our IT administrator intentionally blocked friendster, myspace, and sites like it because students will not listen to the teacher anymore. but we've got a lot of clever students. still, they make use of proxy sites. our IT administrator can't block every proxy site because it's too many. hehehe!

The intranet is accessible by everyone in the company. As for the intranet, sites such as social networking (e.g. facebook) and explicit materials are blocked.

I could access almost all sites in the internet but I won't be accessing unethical and other indecent sites. I reckon that everyone can almost access all sites in the internet during work hours however we were bound by company rules and guidelines when we are accessing them.

We can access just about anything at work except porn sites and social media sites. I also know that upper management is concerned about how much time people spend on the Internet instead of working.

When I was working, I worked for the Government and we had our own "in house" system. We were allowed to access the World Wide Web only outside of work time and were disciplined if we did it in work time.

That's actually a pretty good policy to have in place. Employees forget that workstations are provided for work purposes and not to be surfing the Internet when they should be on the job.

I can access anything I want on the internet at my job and we never had problems with it over here..
